  When researching literature, it is useful if you know the different forms of publications, where you can find them and what kind of information you can expect to find in them (see also publication genres).

  Publishers can publish textual information as a stand-alone book (monograph), an individual chapter in an edited volume or as a journal article. Universities and other organisations also publish textual information in a variety of forms.
  
  Further publications from universities, public bodies and other organisations (e.g. research reports, dissertations, working papers) can now primarily be found in electronic form on their websites or in so-called repositories. Academic blog posts have also recently become established as a new form of publishing in academe. Academic publications can be accessed in print and/or electronic form.
