The module introduces students of medical informatics to the fundamental concepts of clinical research and evidence-based medicine. The goal is to establish a basic understanding that enables students to actively contribute to interdisciplinary research projects. Participants will learn about essential study designs (e.g., randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, case-control studies) as well as different types of scientific studies. Furthermore, the module fosters the ability to systematically read and critically evaluate research articles, with a particular focus on assessing methodological quality and interpreting study results. Students will acquire the skills to search for, appraise, and contextualize scientific evidence within the scope of medical questions and digital solutions in medical informatics. The module is aimed at students interested in actively supporting research projects and contributing competently to research teams.
